2026-08-12

Contact fields can be used to store the data you collect from your contacts throughout the conversations.

This helps you segment contacts inside a flow and lets you create more customized funnels that help with conversion.

Creating a contact field

There are two ways to create a contact field. We will explain both in this documentation.

Create a contact field from the overview tab

To find the contact fields overview, press Content in the left-hand menu and select the Contact Fields tab.

You will reach the contact fields overview, where you can manage all the fields you have created.

To create a new contact field, press the blue button in the top right corner, named + New Contact Field.

A pop-up window will open, and there you can set up the new contact field.

Just name the new contact field. The next step is to select what type of field you want to create. The types currently available are:

  • Text
  • Number
  • Boolean
  • Date
  • Datetime
  • JSON
  • Long JSON (extended capacity of up to 500,000 characters, versus 20,000 for the standard JSON — recommended for large volumes of data, such as e-commerce catalogs or long AI responses)

These fields let you set up all kinds of options inside your chatbot, including saving data from contacts or from API calls as an array.

You can also add a description if you want to clarify what the field is for. Below the description, you can choose whether to move it into one of the folders you have created to keep contact fields more structured and easy to find.

When you are done, just press the blue button in the bottom right corner, named Save, and the contact field will be created.

Creating a contact field inside the flow builder

Another way to create a contact field is to do it directly inside the flow builder. The big advantage is that you can create the fields on the spot, without having to go through the contact fields overview tab first.

Just open any flow: from there, you can create contact fields anywhere you need to use them.

You will be able to create them inside:

  • Question blocks
  • Action blocks -› set custom variable
  • External request -› response tab

Let's take an example with the question block. We want to store the answer to the question inside a new contact field.

Just start typing the name of the new contact field. The next step is to click that same name, which appears right below what you typed, to create the field on the spot.

You will then be asked what type of contact field you want to create. Depending on where you are or on the type of question, the options shown change.

In this case, since it is a regular question block, we see:

  • Text
  • Number
  • Boolean

If you asked a date/time type of question, you would see only that type of custom field.

Managing your contact fields

To manage all your contact fields, use the main contact fields overview tab.

You can create folders to keep the contact fields overview more structured and find your fields more easily.

And you can manage any contact field directly from this overview tab by pressing the pencil icon to its right.
