Turn on chat notifications on mobile

Get notified about new messages even when the chat is closed

2026-08-17

To get notified about new messages on your phone, the chat must be opened as its own app — not inside the preview page. Use Move to Mobile, add the chat to your Home Screen, and tap the bell.

The bell does not appear in the preview
The standard preview page embeds the widget inside another page, and embedded chat windows cannot enable push notifications. If you cannot find the Notifications button, the chat is still embedded.

Open the chat as its own app

1
Open the chat preview on your computer
2
Select Move to Mobile
The button is in the chat header.
3
Scan the QR code with your iPhone or Android phone
4
Open the link on your phone
This opens the standalone chat page, which supports notifications.

iPhone and iPad

You need iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later.

1
Make sure the standalone chat page is open in Safari
It is the page you opened from the QR code.
2
Tap Share
The button is at the bottom of the screen.
3
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
4
Tap Add
5
Open the new chat icon from your Home Screen
6
In the chat header, tap the Notifications (bell) button
7
Tap Allow when your iPhone asks for permission

Done: notifications now arrive even when the chat app is closed.

If notifications do not arrive on iPhone

1
Open Settings on your iPhone
2
Tap Notifications
3
Find the chat app by name
4
Turn on Allow Notifications

Also check that Focus or Do Not Disturb is not hiding the alerts.

Android

The steps below use Google Chrome. Menu names may differ slightly in other Android browsers.

1
Open the standalone chat page in Chrome
It is the page you opened from the QR code.
2
Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
3
Tap Add to Home screen or Install app
4
Confirm the installation
5
Open the new chat icon from your Home screen or app list
6
In the chat header, tap the Notifications (bell) button
7
Tap Allow when Android asks for permission

If notifications do not arrive on Android

  • In your phone's Settings > Notifications, confirm that the chat app (or Chrome) has permission.
  • In Chrome, confirm that notifications are allowed for the chat website.
  • Check that Battery Saver, Do Not Disturb, or something similar is not blocking the alerts.

Customize the app name and icon

Administrators control the name and icon shown when the chat is added to a phone's Home Screen.

1
Open Webchat Widget Settings
2
Open Chat Header
3
Change the Header Name
This is the app name on the Home Screen.
4
Change the Header Logo
This is the app icon on the Home Screen.
Anyone who already installed it must reinstall
If the chat was already added to a phone, remove the Home Screen icon and add it again for the new name or logo to take effect.
